Thanks for the replies to my questions.  As it turns out, I "fixed"
it last night.  But, I wasn't a good experimentalist in that I
tried two things at once and don't know which, if either, is
responsible.  I cleaned the parts in the distributor and reset the
air gap, but I also noticed that the cable to the starter motor
was very loose.  The starter had been working fine, but I am
wondering if somehow the bad connection caused too much of a load
for the ignition to create a spark.  I also convinced myself that
there IS a ballast resistance wire buried in the harness and that
my coil has been wired correctly.  As one list member suggested,
the condensor on the coil is probably for noise suppression for
the radio.  So, with a little luck, my Lucas electronic ignition
may just keep going for awhile.  When it does die though, I have
some good advice from list members about how to replace it.
