I think what Bob is referring to is 63/37 tin/lead.  It does not
have a paste state, goes from solid to liquid and back to solid.
This means you are less likely to get a "cold solder joint".
Cold solders joints are those dull weak ones, that have high a resistance.  
I also like to use a small diameter solder, as it melts
quicker and the amount of solder added to the joint is more
controllable.
