You will usually hear the mainshaft spinning when the car is in neutral, all
goes quiet (in theory) when the clutch is depressed.

The chassis was supplied from the subcontractor in a black enamel. The body
and chassis unit was subsequantly painted as a unit, so everything bar those
surfaces in direct contact with the bodywork (ie., inaccessible for spraying
) would be body coloured.
