If anyone is interested, I was able to make a J type O/D fit in a TR6 with the
older type frame. (As most of you probably know, this arrangement is not the
norm.)
The following three photos will give you an idea of how I did it.
Photo 1 shows the special bracket pieces I made. (The cutouts in each are to
allow for clearance of the solenoid or the speedo cable drive.)
Photo 2 is the bracket mounted on the frame
Photo 3 is the OD installed.

I haven't driven the car yet but I believe this arrangement will hold up fine.
