In the UK sit com you mention it is a Rover 213 or 216 (1300 or 1600 cc).
The 1300 had a 12 valve Honda engine. The 216 had the British 1600 engine in
common with the Maestro, Montego and the Leyland Daf van.
This was a joint thing with Honda. In fact Honda versions were built on the
same production lines at the Rover Longbridge plant. The Honda version was
named the Ballade. It had a different 1600 engine and slightly different
front and rear lights.
The Rover 200 series was reborn in 1989 and the Honda version was then
called the Concerto.
