smoothed? re-cranked? Whatever. So no problem. AND he reported to me
the compression test he had done on the engine: all cylinders were from
110
to 120. That's not too bad, is it? It was a cold test and used the wrong
oil (10W30 which the PO had told me to use but I now understand from this
list it should be 20W50).
So the mechanic's opinion is that I shouldn't bother doing the upper engine
stuff - rings/valves/etc/etc. What do you folks think? Remember, money IS
an object here!

Follow your mechanic's advice and don't sell the dog this year. You can
probalby get by on the rest for another 5 - 10 years at which point you'll
be ready to sell her.
