In the mix also is a likelyhood of a leak at the rear of the oil pan which
is of course directly in front of and above the clutch slave. BTDT.

I had a similar situation and traced it to leakage at the dip stick. New
felt
washer helped a lot... but have thought to making a brass sleeve to solder
on
the stick so the dipstick fits a little tighter in the hole. I assumed it
was
splash from the pan at high revs.
On my open Breather TR4 the blow-by tube also spreads "rust prevention" in
that spot.
