Hans:
I had a similar Bosch Jetronic fuel injection system in my '83 VW GTI.
The only time I had any trouble with it was when the vacuum line fell of the
brake booster. Same symptoms as your TR, car wouldn't idle.
Check all the vacuum lines, since you've already spotted a duct tape patch
job.
