TR6 Tonneau

I wonder if anyone on the list has found a way of protecting the paint
around the poppers on the doors of the TR6. These are the ones that the
tonneau cover attaches to, and the old brittle paint around them is very
prone to chipping as the poppers are popped and unpopped. Perhaps a thin
washer under the popper? Something over the paint?

Any ideas?
