Late model Spit?
The three terminal oil press switch has 2 terminals that are a 'floating'
(switch is terminal to terminal only, not to ground like the third terminal)
switch that is wired into the anti-run-on valve attached to the bottom of your
vapor canisters, When you shut off the ignition the ign. switch grounds
one side of the solenoid valve. Since oil press still temporarily exists,
the valve is activated, allowing manifold vacuum to be applied to the
vapor canister, helping to stop fuel flow and 'supposedly' stop possible run on.
When the oil pressure finally drops, the switch opens disconnecting power
to the solenoid.
The single terminal is the typical single contact to ground that turns on the
low oil pressure idiot light (inside your speedo face)

Okay, okay... so it was a dumb question. And actually I did know the oil
pressure gauge is mechanical - I pulled the hose off myself when taking the
dash apart. I just kinda... well... forgot.

So what is the "oil pressure switch" doing on my engine? And why are there
three wires hanging near it? Should one of them be connected to it?

(Sorry 'bout the dumb question - wish I could tell you it'll never happen
again!)
Frank.
