Pat : My book gives the capacity as 1.8 US pints or 0.8 liters. That's for the early axle, but I assume the later one is the same. The important part is to fill to the bottom of the fill plug threads. IMO any quality hypoid gear oil, either GL4 or GL5, is suitable, especially if you follow the 6000 mile change interval.
