This '70 Spitfire Mk III is posted on the VTR website for $800.00. I
contacted the owner, Charley Maresca (maresca@abc.org), and he provided me
some information, which I have attached below. The car is in Washington,
DC.
If anyone is interested, please e-mail Mr. Maresca. He has pictures he can
e-mail as well.
Also, I would appreciate it if someone would forward this to the Spitfires
list as well.
NFI, etc.
Thank you,
Jeremy Kinney

>> Dear Mr. Maresca:
>>
>> Saw your ad on the VTR classifieds. I may be interested in the '70
>> Spitfire you have for sale.
>>
>> I do have a few general questions that I gleaned from the VTR website.

>> Can you describe the car and its condition?

> It is intact, although it needs some work. The top is too tattered
>to repair, for example. There is no carpet (only some of that $3/yd floor
>covering material which I put in to hide the bare floor). I reupholstered
>the seats; they look nice. The car has some chips in the paint; the paint

>Everything probably needs to be greased, oiled, adjusted, etc.

>> Does it run?
>>
> [Charley Maresca] Yes, it runs. I drive it up and down the street

>> How is the:
>> Body? [Charley Maresca] It's all there, with no big dings or dents.
>> There are the usual stress tears at the latch points on the hood/bonnet.
>> Paint? [Charley Maresca] Even Earl Scheib could have done better, but
>> you have to get close to see the flaws.
>> Rust? [Charley Maresca] No rust, but the floor pans have been replaced
>> and there is bondo in the rocker panels.
>> Interior? [Charley Maresca] Nice seats, the dash is fine, the door
>> panels are a little dingy, it needs carpeting.
>> Tires? [Charley Maresca] It needs tires. It's been sitting on these
>> tires for about 14 years, we think.
>> Engine? [Charley Maresca] It runs well. I haven't taken it past third
>> gear, though.
>> Brakes? [Charley Maresca] I replaced all the shoes and pads and
calipers
>> and wheel cylinders. They still feel a little spongy to me, but I think
>> they need to be bled better.
>> Shocks? [Charley Maresca] Desperately needed.
>>
>> Does it have overdrive or any other special options? [Charley Maresca]
>> No overdrive.
>>
>> Are there any major components missing? [Charley Maresca] Nope.
>> Everything is all there.
>>
>> How long have you owned it? [Charley Maresca] I've had it four years,
>> the previous owner also had it for a number of years without driving it
>> much, and the owner previous to him had it for a while as a daily driver
>> in Texas. Last registered in Maryland in 1985 or 86.
>>
>> Is it registered and licensed in DC? [Charley Maresca] No. It's
>> unregistered.
>>
>> Where is it located in DC? [Charley Maresca] Northeast DC, not too far
>> from Catholic University.
>>
>> Mileage? [Charley Maresca] 80,000.
>>
>> Has it been wrecked or damaged? [Charley Maresca] Not as far as I can
>> tell.
