Apparently these are specified for France only. I am wondering why they
wouldn't be clear as the rest of the TR6s are. Can one see well enough with
amber reverse lenses, or do they serve some other purpose?
More than a little curious, Merci.

Until about 1990, headlights and fog/spotlights fitted to cars registered in
France were
required to be fitted with either yellow lamp lenses or yellow bulbs. The French
maintained that yellow had better anti-dazzle properties and was better in fog.
Most of
the rest of Europe determined this was a French prerogative - and continued to
use white
headlights. In Sweden, I believe they have dipped white headlights for daytime
use as well
and I'm sure Odd Hedberg will confirm or deny this?. There was a time that
"yellow at all
costs" was a production specification for factory fitted equipment and though
few Triumphs
left Coventry with French equipment (their cars were mostly made in Belgium), I
remember
seeing French registered Triumphs with yellow reverse lights. I don't think
there was a
requirement for this and many manufacturers only fitted yellow to be on the
safe side. The
downside was that at a distance it wasn't immediately evident the car was
reversing or
whether the indicators or hazard warning systems were failing to flash. From a
user
perspective, I expect yellow reversing lights were much the same as yellow
headlights - my
Simca 1308 was useless when so equipped.
