I was trying to install my radiator and I noticed that the hole in the
radiator didn't match the crank dog on the fan, it is about 1/2" high,
therefore the motor needs to be raised. A while back there was some
discussion on motor mount shims to correct this problem. However, this car
was a basket case and as far as I know, no shims were in the "basket". I
don't even know what they look like.
My questions are: can these shims be fabricated from metal sheet and if so
what shape are they (are they "U" shaped as in suspension shims)? Where do
you install the shim, between the frame and motor mout, or between the motor
mount and engine? How thick can the shims be when installed and still be
safe.
