Hi Robert

I have always "relaxed" the hood frame, put the top in position, and lastly
raised the side struts with the locking lever when erecting the top on my
TR3's. Of course I had always done it this way with the TR4 top. I checked
both the TR3 & TR4 owner's manuals and the TR3 doesn't mention this step,
whereas the TR4 manual does. In any event, it seems much easier this way.
I find that the tops will actually stretch out a bit after they are installed
and on awhile. But keep in mind that cold will cause any top to shrink a
rather large amount. To such a degree that I have not been able to put one on
until the next day and it was out in the sun for awhile.
You want to fit the top as loosely as possible when you first install it. You
might also wish to recheck the position of the sticks as they may be too far
rearward. Lastly there is a small amount of adjustment available where the
sticks connect to the body.

<< hello list, its been 20 years since I drove it, but its getting near time
to get it on the road. accordingly I am attempting to fit a new top,
Robbins brand, to my 63 tr3b. as I recall the last time I fitted a top it
was an aamco top, and one had to stretch it good to get it on. This top
lacks about 2 inches at the rear and I'm afraid since its already short, if
it were to shrink [ they all do, don't they] i will never get it on. as it
is I have to drop the bows to fasten it and then wrestle them back up.
don't recall doing that years ago, course i was strong and youthful then!
have i just got a "small top" or can something else be hanging me ? its a
complete frame up with different shell and frame and windscreen from I don't
how many donor parts cars. thanks in advance for any light on this cause
i.m in the dark as usual! >>
