Ok, everybody needs to pat me on the back for NOT continuing to fiddle with
the following problem till I broke something -- which is usually what I would
do.
I've just finished checking the valve clearance in my TR7, and putting in all
new shims, including a couple of .085 Jaguar shims that cost me $6 each...
I used assembly oil, got the camshaft back in place, and torqued down the
camshaft bearings to 168 inch lbs (14 ft lbs) using a classy $50 "click"
torque wrench from Home Depot.
Thinking I'm almost home free, I go to secure the camshaft sprocket with
chain on the front of the camshaft, and I can't get the bloody thing to fit
back into the small center hole in the camshaft. The chain is quite tight,
and I'm about 1/16" away from getting it to slip together.
I tried gently leveraging the sprocket with a screwdriver, but no go. Plus
it's hard to find anything to push against on an aluminum head....
So, any bright ideas how to get the assembly back together?
As usual, any and all replies much appreciated.
Thanks!
