According to Chris Harvey, in his book, "TR for Triumph", US bound
carburetted TR8s came with 175-cd Zenith-Strombergs. He makes mention of
early Euro models or TR7 V8s being equipped with SUs, as were the Rover
SDIs.
I think Z-Ss get a bad rap because they were BLs "emissions
carburettor" and SUs were generally installed in non-emission cars that,
from a purely performance perspective, ran better. A properly set up
Stromberg will match the performance of an SU, all things being equal.
Emotion plays heavily into comparisons, and it gets down to a "Holley vs
Carter" thing in most instances.
