After several years of hearing horror stories on the list about
rear hub pulling jobs (special tools, BF hammers, torches, and lots
of brew), I am now faced with that nightmare myself. I thought I
would weigh the pros and cons of trying to do it myself vs. having
a Triumph specialist do it. So this morning I called a garage that
has a great reputation in these parts, and they said they COULDN'T
DO IT! So what makes me think I can do it? Now I'm weighing the
pros and cons of doing it myself vs. buying rebuilt hubs from TRF
(Moss and VB don't seem to carry them) at $199 each.
In looking at my Haynes manual I see that there are three special
tools required: the hub puller, which I have heard about, and two
others. I don't really understand what they are and why they are
so special. Can you folks with experience doing this tell me what
these other two tools are and whether I really have to have them.
And should I really try this? I'm pretty good mechanically, but I
don't want to end up hitting myself over the head with the BF hammer
out of frustration.
Thanks, Tim
