OK,
I almost got stuck driving the TR to work today. I bad thing happend I
think. It seems (though I am guessesing in hindsight here) that the engine
wants to die after running over rough roads, or upon driving up an incline.
At first I though it was something like water in the fuel, as the symptoms
were similar, so I continued on and bliped the throttle to clear any water,
but it kept getting worse. At the halfway point in my trip to work (50 min
drive) the car started to die as I was driving. I simply restarted while in
motion and pressed on getting more angry all the time. At this point the
road flattened out and became smooth, and the troubles went away. I drove
the rest of the way in to work with no problems, until I cornered to get
into the parking lot; same problem.
Sorry this is so long winded, but here are the questions. Does this sound
like rust in the tank? I assume so, but it is odd that RIGHT after hitting
a bump or hard corner it happens, it seems that it would take a minute to
draw the rust up. I also have an inline filter before the fuel pump, and
right before the carbs (wouldn't the filters get continuously clogged up
until there was no fuel flow?). What else could it be? Is there an easy way
to check for water/rust in the tank? Carb bowls emptying for some reason?
I replaced the jets a few months ago, and all has been well, nothing has
changed (at least by me).
Thanks
Graham Spencer
