Listers,
2 things I have discovered while trying to put the hard top on my TR6
for the winter in Cape Town. The first is irritating, and maybe a
warning to those who have others work on their soft top. The trim shop
replaced the rivets along the back base of the top, and after removing
the old ones, obviously could not work out how to replace them properly.
Rather than taking time to remove the metal bar that these rivets
connect to, they drilled holes in the bodywork, and riveted through the
bar AND the bodywork. This of course makes it impossible to remove the
soft top, and therefore install the hard top, without destroying the
rivets. Watch out if you farm out hood repairs!
The second (don't ask how I discovered this while trying to fit the hard
top) is the answer to the mysterious "coat hangers in the boot" noise I
get when cornering and braking, about which I emailed the list a few
months back. I have found that there is a spring in the fuel tank, of
quite thick wire, roughly conical and about 5 or 6 inches long. It's not
connected to anything.
Does anyone have any idea what it is or how it might have got there?
Thanks
Paul
