I think the parts are the same between the 4, 4A, 5 and 250. If I screw this
up I hope someone on the list corrects me....but...maybe I can shed some
light.
What you ordered was the inner sill for the LH side. There is also an outer
sill. The inner is indeed the back of the outer one. When these are welded
together and welded to the floorpan and posts make up what is called the
"sill" or as is often called, "rocker panel". The lip where these two meet
offers the attachment for the door seal at the bottom. There is a shaped
sheet metal "plug" that is also welded into each end of the sill. Once
assembled the cross section might look something like (excuse my ascii)

       Inner outer side

Hope this helps.

Listers, I need some help - this time not just on technique and methods but,

in this case, on parts and even terminology.
I am not all that far from finishing my 65 4A and the last 'structural' work

involves the bottom of the door frame. I'm refering to the surface you can
see from above - with the little ' water/rain' groove that runs along it (if

that's what it is). Whatever was there before was gone - completely. So a PO

fabricated bits and pieces of metal riveted together and bondoed over to
form
a substitute. Not bad visually but.......
What happened is that I assumed that the area I'm referring to was what is
referred to as the 'sill'. I order an 'inner sill' (Moss part 855-230). When

it arrived, it clearly wasn't what I'd been thinking I needed.
My questions:
a) - What do you call the area at the bottom of the door frame that goes
from
the B post assembly to the A Post assembly. I guess another way to ask this
is what's on top of the rocker panel? Anything? Or - what does the rocker
panel attach to on top of it?
b) - What is the function of the part I ordered. It appears that it attaches

vertically (?) to - what? and - how? and acts as a 'back' to the rocker
panel. Is that correct?
I've learned a lot about body work in the course of this retoration. But I
still feel way over my head in this regard. More so than with the
mechanicals. And it occurs to me that maybe my own insecurity about this is
part of the problem.
Anyway, any help in getting this part of the car to at least look original
will be most appreciated.
Thanks.

Jim
