Hi Doug,
The seal at the bell is a scroll seal.  It's a threaded groove which directs 
the oil back into the transmission by the input shaft spinning within it.  
Since your input shaft is not spinning and you may have out too much oil in 
the tranny and the rear of the tranny is higher than the front, it may very 
well be leaking out the threaded groove  into the bell and out the drain 
hole.  
Level the car, remove the filler hole plug and see if any overfill comes out. 
 If not, it's probably more that the car was not level.
