Hi,
Some questions about my TR4A transmission. I got the cleaned
up and pulled off the top cover. Gears and synchros look great,
no apparant wear on the teeth, 2nd gear play is about 0.006 along
the mainshaft, so I believe the mainshaft thrust washers are fine.
Anyone think I should disassemble the main clusters and renew
bearings, synchros, washers anyway? This is my first gearbox
rebuild, and I'm all ears.
The bad news: broken clutch fork pin. If there's no reason to
pull the mainshaft, I'll drill a hole for another pin and leave it
alone.
How do you check the condition of the layshaft without pulling the
tail extension? There's gray slime around the gearbox housing and
the box was a little noisy last time I drove, so I suspected the
layshaft.
Thanks for the advice.
Cliff
