Well it started up last night! I put the timing back where I initially
had it, pulled the carbs, and checked the valves. Low and behold the 2nd
carb's valve was stuck. Un-stuck the valve, blew some air through the fuel
line (man does gas taste bad) to make sure all was well, put it together
again, and here's the key, PATIENTLY started the car up. It took about 2
mins, and it caught and ran. I adjusted the dizzy by ear (wasn't too far
off) and almost fell over. It's a good thing my wife was out by me, I told
her "You were here and can prove I wasn't dreaming right?" Waa Hoo.
Ok I want to thank everyone here for making this possible, and of course
ask another question. The car is idling very fast 3500 rpm or so, and the
idle adjustment screw is out all the way. I didn't rebuild the carbs, and
they were fine on the old engine. The old engine and head were original
(73) and the new engine and block (& intake manifold) are of the older
variety. Would that make a difference?
Thanks,
Graham Spencer
