Hi Graham
No 1 cylinder is the one at the front of the engine,water pump end, from
there on in you
have it more or less right just make sure you are on the compression stroke
by removing the rocker cover and see that the valves on no 6 cylinder are on
the rock, that is exhaust valve just closed and inlet just opening when you
turn the engine clockwise when looking at the front.
