Subject: Sorry still on fuel pump

I hate to go here again, I thought I had the problem corrected. After
removing the fuel pump and inspecting it, I felt the diaphram was OK. After
about 125 miles of driving I have about 1/2 a quart more oil/??? reading on
the stick than I should.
        > Does it smell like Fuel?

If it was water would I see bubbles on the stick?
        > maybe- usually frothy light colored gook....

Would oil/water mix be obviously different looking than oil/gas mix?
        > Yes- gas thins out the oil. Water creates an emulsion.

Does anyone sell just the diapraghm for the fuel pump? It's not in the big
three
catalogs.
        > Unlikely. Spring for a new pump. It is a part who's failure can
cause
        extreme wallet pain.

How ugly will it be if there is water? head gasket, crack in
block,head ???
        > Head gasket- mildly ugly
          cracked head- ugly
          cracked block- two bagger ugly

Would buying a compression tester tell me if I have serious
problems?
        > Don't buy one just yet. Sniff the oil- Fuel? New pump.
Drain the oil. Watery gook? with luck, it's just the head
gasket.
It is sometimes tough to tell whether the gasket is shot just by
looking at it.
Look for clues in the head, like a very clean exhaust port, or
a
rusty spark plug tip. make sure it has REALLY flat the mating
surface.
maybe even a good time to take it down to the machinists for a
quick shave of a couple thousandths just so you know for sure
the surface is good.
Reassemble, and check the oil level repeatedly, look for an
increased level.
Worst case- dump in a can of block sealer, take the risk of
gooking up the radiator,
and read up on 'Figure of Eight' gaskets in the workshop
manual. You may get a season's use out of it, but
seriously consider tearing the motor down next winter,
before something bad happens....

Is there anyone near Stow Ohio who wants to visit?
                > Be Brave. it's probably the fuel pump....
 Have Fun!
