Well I took my 71 TR6 for it's first legal ride on Saturday. I have no
idea how long the car has been off the road. I bought it last October, and
it had obviously been off the road for quite a while when I bought it. It
was a sunny day, in the upper 70's and it was GREAT. I had to make a few
'test' runs to check it out. One way along the 4 lane and back home along
the beach road. Then of course, I had to take my better half for a ride,
out on the 4 lane, back along the beach.
Life is Good!
Now for the next step, I am getting a vibration after I get above 40. It
seems to have lessened some since I've been driving it some now. I know the
PO replaced the tie rod ends, and probably it's not aligned, but the
vibration seems to be coming from the rear end. I jacked it up and checked
the drive shafts for play, but found none. I was going to grease the
u-joints, but no grease fittings. I'm thinking I may have to drop the
shafts and check the u-joints, the grease may have hardened up from the car
sitting. It also seems I'm getting a mild 'roaring noise' from the right
rear when I'm driving. This being my first independent rear end car, I'm
not sure what's normal and what's not. I'm going to put the car in for a
front end alignment and wheel balance this week and see if that helps any,
but I have my doubts.
I'd appreciate any advise, recommendations of what to check to clear up the
vibrations.
