Mark,
If all else fails try this:
Take a soft cloth and saturate it with alcohol. (not so much that it is
dripping). Take the cloth and wipe over the top of the white spot taking
extreme care not to actually touch the surface of the table. Do this several
times and watch to see if the discoloration begins to fade. The alcohol vapors
will penetrate the finish and displace the moisture that causes the white
discoloration.
The success of this technique depends entirely on what kind of finish is on the
table.
