Tis true, no factory valve seals. A small amount of oil through the
guides is needed to lube the valve stems.
IMO your smoke is almost certainly caused by oil through the guides.
Broken or leaky rings leak all the time, not just on overrun. Heavier
oil will probably reduce the oil burning back to unnoticeable levels.
It's sometimes possible to add valve stem seals without pulling the
head, but I've been advised to stay away from the 'teflon' type seals,
as they apparently don't allow even the minimum lubrication through,
resulting in accelerated guide wear.
