Michael,
Thanks... what setting did you use. The instructions said to
start with the lowest first. These shocks are MUCH stiffer than
what I took of or the Woodhead new units... even at the lowest
setting

Subject: Re: TR4 SPAX Shock Absorber Installation Question
Ok, here goes. I had the same problem, but found that if you put
the new
metal washers on in the correct sequence, the shock spindle
doesn't move in
the shock tower. Seems secure to me, but YRMV.
You should have two types of metal washers - those with an
indented hex
impression and those with a raised lip (no hex). Also, two rubber
pieces,
flat on one side, a lip on the other.
Slip the pieces on in this order...
1st, one of the "hex" washers, hex side (convex) toward the shock
body
2nd, rubber piece, flat side first (toward the shock)
3rd, metal washer with lip - concave side first so it sandwiches
the rubber
and the lip is away from the shock. Lip should be pointed up.
Now, slip the shock up into the tower and attach the bottom
brackets.
You should see that the lip on the topmost washer protrudes into
the hole at
the top of the shock tower.
Next, the other metal hex washer, hex side down. (This allows the
lip of the
metal washer below the tower to come up through the hole in the
tower and
into the hex of the metal washer above the tower. Once tightened,
will pinch
the tower sheet metal in between and the lip will prevent
side-to-side
movement.
Then slip on the other rubber, flat side goes on first
Last, the other "lipped" metal washer with lip to the top, again
sandwiching
the rubber between the two concave sides of the metal washers.
Install the two jam nuts and you're done. (Don't forget to use a
small
wrench on the flats at the top of the spindle to avoid turning it
inside the
shock while you're tightening the jam nuts.)
You DID adjust the shock firmness BEFORE you installed it, didn't
you? Can
be done after, but lots easier if you do it while it's off the
car.
Hope this is clear, Brian. Let me know if you still have
questions.
