For those inclined to pursue the Getrag 5 speed solution, information I have
dug up indicates some of their available 5 sp. boxes are actually made of
Swiss cheese. ( OK, I am exaggerating) but there are some limitations, best
described by visiting the transmission pages of
http://www.metricmechanic.com
These guys are quite knowledgeable and I have been satisfied with
their business conduct.
I have a 4 sp. getrag in my 2002, and it is pretty lame. I also have a toyo
5 sp. in my 4X4, and it is virtually bulletproof (180,000 miles) YMMV......
NFI, of course.
