Hi all,
The TDC has been around since I co-founded it in 1990. Yes, ten short
years. But, we grew to 40 members very quickly and have hovered between
there and 50 ever since. We count nearly 130 people as "present or former"
members.
Our club, since inception, has met at only two places, both Legion Halls.
AS we outgrew the Belgian Club Legion, we moved to the Norwood legion.
Upstairs they have a hall rated for bout 75 people. Decorated as all
"original" legions are, it is a comfortable place with good solid tables
(enough to carry the weight of many a beer) and privacy. They are more than
happy to sell us a case or two of beverage over a meeting's duration, and we
tidy up after ourselves. Whereas they normally rent the room for $75 an
evening, our understanding is that a paying booking takes precedence. This
has happened only once.
It feels good to meet in a place dedicated to those who have served the
greater good of our countries. We all get along well. They like our cars
and our "out-of-the-way" approach to patronage. All is well.
It's almost as good as having our own clubhouse.

PS: FYI, the Winnipeg Sports Car Club, the race/rally/solo club b.1952,
owned its own clubhouse until the mid 70's. then, faced with the choice of
a clubhouse in town or a concession/shelter/showers at the race track -
chose the latter. Now this club meets at the Irish Association just like
every other club. But we have a race track and facilities booked 6-8
sessions each year. Best of both worlds.
