My " new " 1956 TR 3 ( TS 10795 ) has the said topside accessable dip stick
/ filler port . The dip stick obviously makes the measurement of oil levels
easier . :-)
According to the DPO the gearbox should be filled with normal ( 20W30 )
engine oil . Is this correct ? I don't trust the DPO any more ( Discovered a
lot of undisclosed non-original , missing and non-functional items after
buying the TR long distance . Long story )

Actually, depends on the transmission. Some, and I am not sure which, TR3
transmissions have a topside accessable dip stick/filler port. I think its
easiest to look underneath first, but if you don't find a filler plug,
remove the carpet over the transmission hump and on the right side there
should be a large rubber gormmet covering a large hole. Underneath that
grommet you may find a cap like thing on the trans, which pulls out and has
a dip stick on it. Fill through the same hole. At least thats what mine is
like.
I am using synthetic gear oil from red line, it's what the PDO had in there
and I have no reason to chnage.
