Hi Joe
All that is now keeping your gas tank in is sheer Herald bloody mindedness!!
And the drain plug located through the boot floor, don't dare try to undo
this as I have tried two and on both occasions the result was a gaping great
hole in the bottom of the tank! Of course if the tank is trash this won't
matter, however the problem arises in reverse when fitting the replacement
tank. Have you carefully removed the sealing ring between the filler neck
and the body? This gives a little more room to manoeuvre then a bit of
ignorance creeps in along with some brute force.

PS I hope this is not a concourse car as this procedure usually results in
chipped paint round the hole!
