Well talk about confusion, when I first emailed Rimmer about a SS header and
exhaust system for my '71 TR6 they replied with the following:
>RR1400 FULL SPORTS SYSTEM £300.00
>INC: TUBULAR MANIFOLD, INTERMIDIATE STRATE THROUGH PIPE AND SINGLE REAR
SILENCER
>ALL LARGE BORE.
>DELIVERY £54.00 5 DAYS
I thought that was a pretty good price, about $570 (especially since this
setup is hard to find this for the early TR6s), but I was confused about the
term "manifold", was this the header? I got an email from Realey Healey,
Inc. saying he may be able to get it from Rimmers for me for less. I said
fine, let me know. They talked to Rimmers and called me back saying that
what Rimmer was referring to was a three piece SS exhaust system, manifold
meaning the front pipe. Suddenly the price wasn't so good and I wasn't
interested, although I have seen three piece SS exhaust systems from other
sources in this price range. Anyway Realey Healey again contacted Rimmer
and spoke to a different person, a senior sales rep. He said 'that they do
make a system that meets my requirements, and the part # was correct. He
said that this is a new product, and they have only recently come into
stock. He also said that their computer does not recognize rr1400 as a good
part # yet, so it isn't surprising that the other person couldn't find it'.
So a tubular manifold is a header, I learned something new, and the large
bore means 2" pipe. So here is my question: I didn't want a Monza system
(too loud) but I do want SS and something a bit more than stock. Anyone
know if this setup is as loud or louder than the Monza or is it (hopefully)
somewhere between stock and Monza in the sound level. Thanks to the many
who respond to my question and all the help with the dollars to pounds
conversion and many thanks to Realey Healey for all their help, great outfit
and my apologies to the Brits for not understanding the Queen's English.
