HELP...Coolant question

My son had his cooling system worked on a while back; replaced thermostat,
sending unit, etc. They topped off with some sort of coolant that was brown
in color and told him not to use the green stuff. He just noticed it's low
and ask me where to find brown coolant. I've never heard of it so I thought
perhaps one of you had. Can anyone tell me what it is, who makes it and
whether any of the chains carry it? Thanks.
