Spot glaze isn't intended to do a skim coat overall. It's supposed to be
the consistency of toothpaste so it'll go into those tiny holes. You should
have a rubber squeegee to allow you to conform to the panel and just leave
spot glaze in the holes. Spot glaze is essentially thick primer. If you
fill or glaze over large areas, you may be in for cracking later, just like
if you put on too thick a film of primer and paint.
If you have a project that really requires an overall skim coat, then by all
means try FeatherFill. It is essentially sprayable filler. Goes on fairly
smoothly, but requires sanding for an acceptable surface. The beauty is
that it's really very sandable but yet stands up well under paint. It's not
intended for deep fills (I think it's probably too soft) but for pinholes
and that slight waviness you sometimes get where filler meets steel, the
stuff is great. It remains flexible, and like filler is catalyzed so it'll
go off quickly and not require hours of drying. Like the old commercial
said - "Try it - you'll like it" ;-)
