In May, I bought a '60 TR3A to restore (frame off) and sell. I've already got a
buyer who has committed to buy the car when I'm finished, and we've already
agreed on a "minimum" price. I'm about halfway through the car. The engine and
chassis are done. The body is back on the frame, the inside and underside is
painted, but still have paint and bodywork to do on the outside before I can
start re-assembly. I've already bought almost all the parts I need to put it
back together, all in boxes. I committed to finish the car by late spring
(early May in Michigan), and so far, I'm on schedule ----- BUT ----
Now my company has decided they want me to move from Detroit to ElPaso, TX
(about 1,700 miles), and if I accept the offer (which I haven't seen yet), they
want me moved by mid January.
------- Now What ?1?!?!
My job has me travelling most weekdays, leaving only the weekends to do any
work on the car. Even if I use all my remaining vacation time and the Christmas
holidays to work on the car, I can't finish by January, and I'll also end up
divorced. I'll have to ship the car (and the boxes of parts) to ElPaso (which
the company will NOT pay for), finish the restoration, then ship it (or drive
it) back to Michigan --- and there goes most of any money I was going to make
on the deal !!! I guess I could reneg on the deal and try to find another
buyer near ElPaso, but that'll really tick off my buyer, who I'll still have to
see from time to time (that's another story). And then I'll have to find
somebody who's willing to pay what he was, or I'll lose.
On the other hand, ElPaso has no rain, snow, cold, or rust to speak of, and I
won't have to travel much for my job, so I'll have plenty of good days for
working on the car, or for driving my other TR3 through the mountains and
desserts. Decisions, decisions. Maybe the company will make me an offer I CAN
refuse, then I won't have to make these decisions! We'll see. What a bummer!
Thanks for listening to my frustration.
