Jerry,
I had a problem with the BPNW pushrods just like you. I was using my existing
rockers on a new shaft. I had the rockers "reconditioned" by the machine shop.
During reassembly I found that there was zero almost negative clearance after
tightening the rocker shaft pedestals down. There were 2 problems. The
machine shop had installed the new hardened seats too deep into the head and
the ball cups on the pushrods was not big enough for the rocker pivot ball.
The pushrods cup size varied a lot.... some fit fine and some were a force fit
that snapped in and were not flexible. I measured with a caliper and confirmed
the variations in the parts.
I had the head redone to lower the valves so they were flush and sent back all
the tight pushrods to BPNW for replacement. They were very supportive and
apologized. They measured and sent me ones with the proper clearances.
I had 2 alternatives that I did not use. One was to leave as is and put a shims
under the rocker pedestals to raise the rocker gear.... and the other was to
find or make shorter pushrods.
Knock on wood.... the engine is approaching 2,000 miles and as is working very
well and strong.
Good luck with your problem.
BTW.. I would have gotten the parts from TRF or MOSS but BPNW were the only
folks with stock and they were very good about any problems and advice. All my
engine insides are from them.
