Frank,
If there are no visible leaks around the clutch master cylinder on the
engine side of the firewall and your left shoe is not saturated with
hydraulic fluid, then the leak is most likely coming from the slave
cylinder or the pipes between it and the master. With an empty master
cyl., there should be some evidence of a leak on your garage floor or
driveway. The other possibility is that you have not checked the level
of fluid in the m/c regularly and there has been a slow leak for some
time and it finally got to the point there wasn't enough fluid to
function properly.
