Winnie,
The Aircraft stripper is about $20.00 per gallon and I used 2.5 gallons. It
is just as you described, a thick paste like consistancy. The power washer
blasts and dilutes it so that there appears to be very little that remains on
the lawn. The larger piecs of paint that come off, dry up like old leaves
that can be raked into a pile.
The poewer washer that I rented, developed 3000 PSI and has a fllow rate of 4
GPM. Thats quite a bit of water if your property doesn't drain well.
The Aircraft stripper does an excellent job of stripping the paint without
the washer, but it is a slow process. I removed and stripped the wings by
hand and they took 1-2 hours each of actual scrubbing. I stripped the spare
tire hatch with two stripper and power wash applications and each power wash
session lasted about 2-3 minutes, if that. I did the entire tub, inside and
out in 4-5 hours and that includes waiting for 45 minutes for the stripper to
soften the paint for each of the two applications.
Make sure that stripper, even old stripper does't get on surfaces that you
don't want stripped.
Good luck on your son's project.
