Dear Listers, particularly those with sidescreen overdrive cars - I'm in
need of confirmation of my overdrive's wiring. After having my 3A for over a
year, the novelty of just driving it with 4 speeds alone is wearing down to
the point where I've begun investigating the reason for my lack of
overdrive. I have removed the carpet and tunnel cover (FAR easier than the
TR6 with the console), and have examined the wiring, comparing it against
that in the Service Instruction Manual. Eureka - I think I've found it! The
wiring in place was nothing like that described in the book, particularly
which went to/from points C1, C2, W1 or W2 on the relay. One glaring
exception is likely to be my solution: the manual describes "A second feed
wire is connected from the negative side of the ammeter to "C1" on the
relay". There was no wire whatsoever from the ammeter to C1 or any other
connection on the relay. I'm going to make one for myself tonight from some
spare wire and clips, but if anyone with their overdrive could verify that
they indeed have a wire from the ammeter to C1, I'd appreciate it (off-list
is fine). Also, to confirm, when the book says "the negative side of the
ammeter", it is referring to the driver's side on our LHD cars? There are no
markings on the back of the ammeter for '+' or '-', so I'm assuming we go by
the face of the gauge? I would think so, since there was a rubber boot for a
bullet connector on the '-' side of the ammeter clip. Why the wiring was in
this state, I have no idea. Wish me luck! Cheers, JD
