I rebodied my GT-6 with a Spit body years ago. I reused the existing spacers.
It seems like they were aluminum discs about 1/4 in. thick. I have a clunk that
is caused by the rear suspension travel that I have been unable to find and I
suspect that I have body to frame motion (along with the resultant contact -
clunk My vehicle is a Mk 3 with the rotoflex setup and the upper end of the rear
shocks attach to the body - transmitting any shock loads into the body. I can
actually feel the clunk transmitted from the body floor pan to seat bottom (seat
bottom cushion is in hard contact with the carpeting).
I plan on lifting the body up and replacing the spacers this winter. First
question : suggestions for material to use. I am thinking along the lines of
using the spacers as isolators. I can buy neoprene sheeting with cloth
reinforcement and cut out the spacers or buy polyurethane rod and cut to length
and drill (anyone know how machineable polyurethane is?). Second question: how
think should I make these? I am thinking about 3/8 or 7/16 in. (slightly more
than the hard metal spacers to accommodate some deflection without having
contact. Final question: any specific areas of the frame that I should look
for fatigue cracks while the body is raised? This is a high mileage vehicle.
