According to information I have, your car would have been built sometime
in calendar year 1965, as the first Spitfire Mk2 built in calendar year
1966 was FC71766. But with a number has high as 68436, it's likely your
car was built late enough in 1965 to have been considered a 1966 model
even before it left Coventry (but certainly by the time it first was sold
here or wherever).
