78 Spitfire Locked-Jammed Door

I could use some ideas.  I have a 78 Spitfire with 
locked drivers side door which I can not get opened.  I have noticed
that the dangling rod with the "O" end has slipped off the bent rod
which controles the external key lock.  However, manually attempting to
move the
bent rod does nothing.  Short of taking a torch to the door, what
options do I have?
