Dave,
I have done this in the past. Get a piece of scrap sheet metal (I have used
pieces of air conditioning duct) and cut out pieces that are the correct
length and width of the clamps you are trying to replace. Use heat shrink,
electricians tape, or plastic dip to replicate the rubber coating. If you
have already painted your floorboards, sand a small area to bare metal where
you want the clamp located. Use a good quality epoxy glue and glue your
clip to the floorboard. Allow it to dry and repaint the area. Using this
technique after you have painted your floorboards prevents the welding heat
from damaging your paint job.
