Just for the record:
Despite strong rumours of the opposite, I have seen no official claim nor
evidence that the PI system as such required leaded gasoline. From a
technical point of view, the lead additives have no lubricating effect
whatsoever undet the conditions that exist within the PI fuel system.
That said, the increased content of aromatics found in high octane
unleaded fuel will shorten the life of the PI rubber O-ring seals.
Replacing them with Viton seals is an excellent cure.
