I would not pay ANY more that $1000 for this car if the engine ran like a
clock.
I paid $500 for a TR4 with similar body rot and a GOOD frame (this means I
can avoid the frame-off for a few years) and a non-running engine.
The frame repairs will have you happily restoring for many months, even
years. The car may disintegrate when you take it apart, which will make
an improbable job well nigh impossible.
I'd make sure that the PO knows what's up with his car before buying it.
My TR4 had a price tag of $2000 the year previous. I think the owner
hadn't looked at it at all, just remembered the money he'd spent on a
"pro" restoration and the way that the car always cost him repair money.
Incidentally, it hasn't broken down on me once (except one time when I
forgot to put gas in it).
