In my TR3, the same thing had happened. The odometer and trip odometer run
off of a gear driven by the speedometer input shaft. The speedometer itself
runs directly from the shaft. If the gear strips the odometers stop, but
the speedometer operates normally otherwise. On the TR3, the old grease in
the speedometer had congealed to the point where it froze the odometer
shaft, casuing the odometer gear, which is fiber, to strip. I replaced it
with the odometer assembly from a scrap speedometer.
