Listers, this winter with nothing more important to do than sitting
around, I removed the 2 S-U H6 carbs from my T/R 3-A, completely rebuilt
them including new bushings & shafts. After a very nice P/C refinish job
on them, I installed them and proceeded to make the adjustments, I cannot
get the C/O below 8.5% no matter how I adjust them (sm needle), the idle
is a little on the rough side and the rich mixture smell abounds I pulled
them back off and rechecked every part for correct installation, all
seems in perfect working order, still the same results. The higher the
RPM'S the higher the C/O count also, I install 2 new S-M needles, same
results. I have a "Gunston Gastester" that has not had much use and is
only about 4 years old, so off to the inspection station for the big dyno
state inspec. machine, the C/O now reads 9.4 and higher on higher RPM'S.
Return home and install S/L (lean) needles, turn the carbs out 12 flats
(2 full turns) start the car 2.4 C/O, idle is 700 and smooooth, very
smoooth. I have never run lean needles in these carbs before, what could
I have possibly done to force this needle change, and yet the car has
never run or sounded any better than it does now. Any ideas. "FT"
